Spartans Open 2006 Season in Thrilling Fashion

AURORA, Ill. September 1, 2006 - Sophomore striker Chase Corricelli and the Aurora University Spartans opened the 2006 season with a bang. Just 0:45 into the game, Corricelli tallied the Spartans first goal on an assist from junior midfielder Jody Hall. The Spartans would go on to defeat the Red Hawks of Ripon College 5-1 on AU Field.

Corricelli went on to score AU’s second goal of the game at the 9:10 mark of the contest, the eventual game-winner, this time on an assist from senior captain Alex DeGurian.

Junior goalkeeper Nick Kimmer, in his first action as a Spartan, posted a shutout over the first 45 minutes. Sophomore Jon Unruh went 37:42 in the second half and freshman Logan Hurley went the final 7:18 in goal for the Spartans.

Seniors Brad Johns, Rob Michaels and DeGurian each tallied unassisted goals to finish up the Spartan scoring, which had AU score four goals in the first half.

Red Hawk Price Ward scored the lone Ripon goal at the 86:23 mark.

With the win, AU moves to 1-0 on the season, while Ripon falls to 0-1.
