The Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration is designed for the student who is seeking pre-professional knowledge and experiences toward a career in recreation administration. The program includes the development of philosophical foundations, knowledge of the scope of leisure services, activity skills, leadership techniques, and the understanding and application of organizational and administration theories. The Recreation Administration Program is accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the American Association of Leisure and Recreation (AALR). Course requirements emphasize the responsibility of recreation professionals in both the private and public sectors to recognize and resolve issues related to the development of meaningful human relationships and values of their clientele toward a humane and democratic society. Students also study the effects of both the natural and social environments upon the quality of life of citizens in the community context. The undergraduate curriculum represents the diversity of recreation services administration. Four tracks are available to provide students with an adequate background for various services and settings: Commercial Recreation Management, Outdoor Leadership, Program Management, and Therapeutic Recreation.
