AU Facts and Information

THE UNIVERSITY
Aurora University is an independent, comprehensive university offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs and specialized courses. Our main campus is in Aurora, Illinois (38 miles southwest of Chicago) and we have an additional campus near Lake Geneva in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. We enroll 4,380 degree-seeking students and several thousand students in non-degree programs in Illinois and Wisconsin. An average class size of 20 and a student-teacher ratio of 15:1 promote interaction and support within the academic environment. The average age of our students is 24 for undergraduates and 31 for graduate students. About 600 traditional age students reside in five residence halls on the main campus.

LOCATION
The campus is located in a residential section of Aurora, which is the second largest city in Illinois, with a population of more than 150,000 residents. It is within a one-hour car, train, or bus ride of Chicago, a proximity that allows students at Aurora University to benefit from the vast cultural and recreational resources of a great metropolitan center. Its midwestern location also provides the enjoyment of a varied climate with a temperature range of 10-32 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter and 75-90 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer.

ADMISSION POLICY
Aurora University defines an international student as an applicant who is not a U.S. citizen and does not hold a U.S. Permanent Resident Visa (i.e. green card). It is strongly recommended that all international students entering Aurora University with the required I-20 Visa do so at the beginning of the academic year, which is the fall semester. Matriculation at this time facilitates a proper orientation and integration into the college community.

See the International Admission Requirements section for complete application procedures.

FORM I-20
The Form I-20, which qualifies the non-immigrant applicant for a F-1 Student Visa, will only be issued after the applicant has met all international application requirements and has been approved for admission to Aurora University. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain a visa in his/her home country before coming to the United States.

To find out more about U.S. Visa categories and requirements please refer to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website at uscis.gov.

International students requiring the I-20 Certificate of Eligibility, who complete the admission requirements stated above and receive approval for admission, must submit a $1000 non-refundable deposit to be applied to tuition.

FINANCIAL AID
There is no need-based financial aid available for international students requiring an I-20 Visa. The International Scholarship Committee may award scholarships to undergraduate students (after issuance of I-20) who qualify based on academic merit.

HOUSING OPTIONS
On-campus housing is available for undergraduate students on the Aurora campus. Graduate students attending classes on the Aurora campus must seek housing off-campus. The Lake Geneva campus provides housing for undergraduate and graduate students on a limited basis.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to graduate from Aurora University, a student must successfully complete all coursework specified by the undergraduate or graduate program as well as maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) on a 4.0 scale (some programs may require a higher GPA). Please refer to the Undergraduate or Graduate Catalog for a complete list of graduation requirements.
