As a winner of the Associate Colleges of Illinois UPS scholarship, can you give your fellow classmates any tips for being successful in the outside scholarship search? First and foremost, start your scholarship searches early, and complete applications during your breaks, free time or summers. Money is available, but it is your responsibility to find it and apply. Second, keep your eyes open in your e-mail, local newspapers, workplace and Financial Aid's Facebook page for new scholarships. Third, keep an ongoing record of your accomplishments and any attributes or skills that set you apart. This will also become useful to you when you are building a resumé or applying for other leadership positions.

Can you give any writing tips for the scholarship essay? A great way to start off your essay is by using a quote that ties in with your core values and goals; however, make sure you introduce the quote and explain your personal connection to it. Something else you can include is a personal story with a theme. It will provide a base for your essay, and you can tie it into your conclusion. Overall, be honest, write what you know and make it known that you are worth winning the scholarship.

What interactions have you had with the Financial Aid office, and how did they turn out? I have been extremely pleased with the personalized attention I have received from the Financial Aid office. They have always been more than willing to help not only me, but our entire student body in the financial-aid process. Scholarship applications are readily available either online or in the office. Also, they are knowledgeable when it comes to loans and facilitate student success to the best of their ability. Thanks, AU Financial Aid!
