AURORA, Ill. — "Creating an Effective Staff Training Process," a business workshop, will be presented at Aurora University's Human Resources Institute from 8 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the University Banquet Hall at Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.

The program is free to the public. Networking and refreshments begin at 7:30 a.m.

The presenter is Sharon Merrill, continuous quality improvement manager for the DuPage County Health Department.

Merrill said, "As we do more with less in these difficult economic times, it's imperative that we create a training process that 'sticks' with employees and creates value.

"This presentation will explore the critical importance of using a trainer with knowledge transfer skills to conduct staff training. Additionally, the presentation will provide a practical approach to enhancing knowledge retention."

Merrill authored "Train the Trainer," published by Training and Development Magazine. She has served as a human resources director, director of education and organization development, and trainer and coach for several organizations for more than 15 years.

Merrill holds a master's degree in management with an emphasis on organizational leadership.

Future scheduled Institute programs are:

  • Nov. 18 — "Creating Performance Sustainability," by Anthony Colantoni, principal, SGC Consulting Group, Inc.
  • Jan. 27, 2010 — "Utilizing Mindmaps for Success," David Dulany, assistant professor of business, Aurora University.
