AURORA, Ill. — Aurora University will offer information about its Master of Arts in Reading Instruction (MARI) degree program and a reading endorsement program at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1.

The public is invited. The session will meet in Room 102 in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.

College of Education faculty will answer questions about the program. Office of Admission representatives will provide details on admission requirements and financial aid for those who qualify.

The next MARI student group will begin classes in January.

AU's MARI program is designed to prepare classroom teachers to become reading specialists. Classroom courses develop candidates' skills in assessment and tutoring with individual students, writing reports based on assessment and observation, and working collaboratively with other school personnel.

AU students can choose from two options: the master's degree option leading to certification as a reading specialist; or the reading endorsement option, leading to an endorsement as a reading teacher.

Courses and requirements for both degree and endorsement candidates are aligned with the Reading Specialist Standards (2003) of the International Reading Association.

Reservations are being accepted for the Oct. 1 information program. For information or reservations, call (630) 844-4643 or e-mail mgaspari@aurora.edu.
