AURORA, Ill. — Area residents and a social-service agency were honored by Aurora University's School of Social Work at an annual field instructors' recognition luncheon in the University Banquet Hall.

AU officials recognized the field instructor of the year, field agency of the year, and graduate and undergraduate students of the year.

Alison Arendt, AU director of field instruction, presided at the event. Donette Considine, interim director of AU's School of Social Work, offered remarks.

Recognized were:

  • Dan Knapp of Aurora was named Master of Social Work Field Student of the Year.
  • AU senior Miranda Tobias of Commerce Township, Mich., won the Bachelor of Social Work Field Student of the Year award.
  • Annice Kennedy-Hanlon of LaGrange, social worker and volunteer services manager at VITAS Innovative Hospice Care of Chicagoland Northwest in Lombard, received the Harold F. Schrage Field Instructor of the Year award.
  • Cornell Companies Inc., Woodridge, was named Agency of the Year. Cornell is a publicly traded company whose primary business is in the field of corrections, education, rehabilitation and treatment for adults and youth.

Arendt said, "Social-work education is anchored by learning in the field. We give a special thank you to all who have generously provided guidance and support to our student community."
