AURORA, Ill. — Aurora University students led workshops at NCLR Lideres Congreso (leadership congress) on Friday, June 26, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Golder College Prep, 1454 W. Superior St. in Chicago.

About 100 high school and college Latinos attended the event co-hosted by AU and Erie Neighborhood House. National Council La Raza sponsored the congress.

AU students Sandra Ocon and Jorge Cabadas, both Aurora residents, co-led "Tell Us What You Really Think. Let's Talk About Education," a workshop from 2 to 3 p.m.

AU students Mayra Magana and Robert O. Lopez, residents of Aurora and Huntley, respectively, co-led "K onda? Your Real Life Guide To College Entry," a workshop from 2 to 3 p.m.

Other AU students attending were Candi Esquin and Michelle Zepeda, both Aurora residents. Eva Serrano, faculty adviser to AU's Latin American Student Organization, also attended.

The purpose of the congress was to inspire and empower attendees to increase their community involvement. Activities were designed to help students build relationships with peers, learn to maximize community impact, and provide an opportunity to network and explore career options.
