George Williams College Announces Auditions for Music by the Lake Production of Madama Butterfly

WILLIAMS BAY, Wis. (Jan. 7, 2009) — George Williams College of Aurora University in Williams Bay, Wis., announces auditions for Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini, a Music by the Lake production with full orchestra to be performed Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, in The Ferro Pavilion at 350 Constance Blvd.

All roles are currently open with paid choral positions also available.

Auditions will be held SaturdayJan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and SundayFeb. 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, 430 S. Michigan Ave., Room #730, 7th Floor, Chicago, Ill. Candidates should use the Wabash Avenue entrance. Additional auditions will be held WednesdayFeb. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 1511 Church St. in Wauwatosa, Wis. (Milwaukee).

Call-back auditions will be held SundayFeb. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Crimi Auditorium in the Institute for Collaboration on the AU campus at 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.

Christine Flasch, executive director of Music by the Lake, will conduct the auditions. Participants are asked to bring a current resume and headshot and be prepared to sing one aria in English, preferably from Madama Butterfly or another Puccini opera.

An accompanist will be provided and a second aria may be requested. All those auditioning should arrive and be prepared to sing at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment.

Music by the Lake is a concert series that was originally presented in the 1950s and '60s, and featured top performing artists such as Isaac Stern, Robert Merrill and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Aurora University revived Music by the Lake in July 2001 with the vision of providing area residents, tourists, and arts lovers with enjoyable entertainment on the shores of Geneva Lake at George Williams College.

The 2008 season included the Main Stage Series, Sundays at 4 Series, and the Spotlight Concert. The Main Stage Series featured Maureen McGovern and the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra, The Kingston Trio and The Brothers Four, a production of Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, and Gordon Goodwin and the Big Phat Band with Patti Austin. The Sundays at 4 Series featured the Prometheus Trio, a production of Die Fledermaus, and the Chicago Brass Quintet. The sold-out Spotlight Concert featured Kenny Loggins, two-time Grammy Award winning superstar.
