Aurora University Honors Alum, Barrington Resident

WILLIAMS BAY, Wis., Nov. 13, 2007 —Aurora University presented Lake Barrington resident Helen Scoggins with the Spirit Award on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Rebecca L. Sherrick, AU president, surprised Scoggins with the award at a reunion and alumni dinner at George Williams College of Aurora University in Williams Bay, Wis.

Sherrick said, “As a graduate of George Williams College, Helen knows firsthand the impact that the institution had on the lives of thousands of students. Her generous and adventurous spirit embody the very best of the GWC tradition.”

The Spirit Award, a brass lantern, was created in 1985 by the AU Alumni Association to recognize persons for unselfish contributions and steadfast loyalty to the Alumni Association and all its constituents.

The lantern symbolizes the recipient’s love of and devotion to the ideals and people of the institution and the nurturing of the Spartan spirit.

Scoggins attended George Williams College at Downers Grove. She received her bachelor’s degree in recreation administration services in 1982 and a master’s in business administration in 1986. She delivered the student speech at the school’s final commencement ceremony in 1986.

Scoggins served on GWC’s alumni association board of directors from 1982 to 1985. A member of the AU alumni association board since 2000, she served as secretary from 2004 to 2006.

Her family includes her husband Glenn.
