Spartans win in decisive fashion 87-59 in AU’s Thornton Gymnasium over MSOE

AURORA, Ill. December 13, 2005 - The Spartans of Aurora University played host to the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders, with the host Spartans winning in decisive fashion 87-59 in AU’s Thornton Gymnasium.

The game was dominated by Aurora early and the Spartans never looked back. Aurora utilized the presence of Jeremy Cartwright down low to jump out to an early 10-0 lead, six points coming from Cartwright. The Raiders began to collapse on the Aurora post players, leaving wide open shots available for the Spartan shooters. Aurora capitalized on these shots shooting 53.8% in the game, and 40% from behind the arc.

Heading into halftime, the Spartans had a comfortable 48-30 lead sparked by a 26 to 11 Spartan run to close out the half and AU shooting 58.8% from the.

The Raiders scrambled to make it a contest in the opening minutes of the second half, cutting the Spartan lead to 11 with 14 minutes to play. But AU’s presence in the paint and a 31 to 14 run to close out the game was too much for MSOE to overcome.

The Spartan attack was led by Cartwright’s double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, Larry Welton chipped in 14 points, Dusty Magee, a freshman guard, was lights out from three point land, tallying 15 points off five three pointers and also dishing out six assists. Courtney Carson added 13 points and five rebounds.

MSOE was led by Scott Murphy’s 18 points and Jeff Mikos added 15 points and four assists.

The win marks Aurora’s first in four games bringing their record to 5-5 and runs its home court record to 55-6 since the 2000-2001 season with the victory. MSOE goes to 6-3 on the season.
