Spartan Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

AURORA, Ill. November 22, 2005 - The Aurora University men’s basketball team received top conference honors as sophomore forward Larry Welton (Chicago/Thornwood HS) was named the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week by the conference’s sports information directors.

During the week of November 14, 2005, in which the Spartans went 2-0 and captured the Lee Pfund Classic at Wheaton College, Welton averaged 21 points and 9.5 rebounds, leading AU to wins over McMurry University (TX) and Wheaton College, while being named the Lee Pfund Classic MVP. He tallied 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in AU’s 98-86 season-opening win over McMurry and had 12 points and eight rebounds in the Spartans 73-72 nail-biting victory over Wheaton in the tournament final.

Welton and the Spartan men are in action next on Wednesday, November 23, when they host the Knights of Carleton College in Thornton Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The Spartans are 2-1 this season.
