NIIC Announces Men’s Soccer Post Season Awards

AURORA, Ill. November 17, 2005 - The Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference announced its 2005 men’s soccer All-Conference and postseason awards. The Aurora University Spartan men’s soccer team placed eight players on the NIIC Team and junior defender Brad Johns (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) was named NIIC Co-Player of the Year by the conference men’s soccer coaches.

Johns led a Spartan defensive unit that allowed one goal in the 2005 NIIC schedule. Along with his defensive counterparts and fellow NIIC All-Conference members, Drew Taylor (DeKalb, IL/DeKalb HS) and James Spaan (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South HS), AU allowed just 1.07 goals per game on the year, finishing with a 16-4-1 overall record.

Joining Johns, Taylor and Spann on the NIIC Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team is junior forward and captain Alex DeGurian (Naperville, IL/Naperville North HS, two goals and one assist), freshman striker Chase Corricelli (Peoria, IL/Notre Dame HS, three goals), sophomore midfielder Marshall Reed (Otsego, MI/Otsego HS, one goal) and sophomore forward Tyler Klotz (Big Rock, IL/Hinckley-Big Rock HS, one assist). Overall on the year, Corricelli led the AU offense with a team high 11 goals and 22 points; DeGurian added six goals and six assists for 18 points; Reed chipped in six goals and four assists for 16 points and Klotz had six goals and three assists for 15 points. The Spartan offense had 10 different players notch a goal and 16 different players tally atleast one point.

AU was led in net by senior, NIIC All-Conference selection, goalkeeper Jeff Bishop, he had 72 saves and compiled a 14-4-1 record with six shutouts on the season and was 3-0 with two shutouts and 16 saves in NIIC contests.
