Spartan Named Academic All-District

AURORA, Ill. November 3, 2005 - Aurora University women’s soccer player, junior defender Shalisse Mathieu (Carol Stream, IL/Glenbard North HS) was named to the 2005 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Women’s Soccer Team, the team is selected by the district’s Sports Information Directors.

Mathieu, a Third-Team selection, is a junior history and secondary education major at Aurora University. Mathieu was a 2004 Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference Fall All-Academic in women’s soccer, as well as an NIIC President’s Honor Roll member. She was also named NIIC Women’s Soccer All-Conference for her outstanding play on the field in her sophomore season. In the 2005 campaign, Mathieu has anchored an AU defense that has allowed only 20 goals in 21 games, a 0.93 goals against average, while recording 10 shutouts as a team. Individually, Mathieu has two assists and the Spartans are 14-6-1 on the season.

The Spartans, led by a strong defense, have advanced to the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference Tournament Championship game against Concordia University, IL, on Friday, November 4, 2005, at AU Field with the game kicking off at 2:00 p.m. The Spartans defeated Rockford College 8-0 in the semi-final round.

The Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA member Sports Information Directors within the district based on the student-athletes’ academic prowess while being a steady influence on their respective athletic field.
