AU Receives Three NIIC Player of the Week Awards
AURORA, Ill. September 27, 2005 - Aurora University had three student-athletes named Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 25, 2005. AU women’s soccer player Lyndsey Mica (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS), men’s soccer player Marshall Reed (Otsego, Mich./Otsego HS) and women’s cross country runner Fran Sikorski (Lombard, Ill./Driscoll Catholic) were all named as NIIC weekly award recipients.
Women’s soccer sophomore forward Lyndsey Mica, the reigning NIIC Newcomer of the Year, led the Spartan women in extending their current win streak to six games. On the week, Mica tallied one goal in each contest vs. North Park University 3-0, Concordia University, Wis. 5-0 and Carthage College 2-1 2OT. On the year, Mica is tied for the team high with five goals, with three assists, 13 points and one game-winning goal. The Spartan women next compete on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, when they host Monmouth College on AU Field at 4:30 p.m., then on Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, when they take on Augustana College on AU Field at 4:00 p.m.
Men’s soccer sophomore midfielder Marshall Reed sparked the Spartan men’s offense with three goals on the week to help extend the AU winning streak to nine games and their unbeaten streak to 11 games (AU is 10-0-1 dating back to the 2004 season). Reed scored the game-winning goal against Carthage College with just over two minutes to play in the second overtime to cap off his stellar week. Against Ripon College, Reed tallied two of the three AU goals en route to a 3-0 road victory. On the year, Reed is tied for the team lead with four goals, as well as dishing out three assists and a team high two game-winning goals. The Spartan men next compete on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, when they travel to nationally ranked Wheaton College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
Finally Spartan women’s cross country junior runner Fran Sikorski shattered her own AU school record by nearly one minute in the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational, running 24:37 for the 6K course at Augustana College. The Spartan women’s cross country team will next compete at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenfield Park in West Allis, Wis.
