AU Baseball and Softball Top NCAA Regional Rankings
AURORA, Ill. April 28, 2005 - In the latest NCAA Division III regional rankings, both the Aurora University Spartan baseball and softball teams were the top ranked teams in their respective regions.
The AU baseball team, ranked #28 in the latest ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll are currently 25-5 overall and 10-2 in the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference, were tabbed by the NCAA Central baseball region selection committee as the top team.
The AU softball teams, currently 29-4-1 overall and 9-1 in the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference, were tabbed by the NCAA Great Lakes softball region selection committee as the top team.
Both teams moved into the top spot in their respective regions following fantastic weeks, which saw the Spartan baseball team go 5-0 since the previous poll, with victories over #8 Carthage College (8-6), Benedictine University (7-3), Concordia University (WI) (10-6, 13-8), and Elmhurst College (14-8).
The softball team went 6-0 since the previous poll that had AU ranked second. In the 6-0 week, AU defeated top regionally ranked University of Chicago (3-0, 1-0), Concordia University (IL) (8-0, 3-0), and Clarke College (7-1, 3-0).
Next action for the Spartan baseball team comes on Friday, April 29, 2005, when they travel to Clarke College for a NIIC contest at 1:00 p.m. The Spartan softball team takes on Dominican University in a NIIC double header on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at 1:00 p.m.
