Aurora University Slates Review Sessions for State Test

AURORA, Ill.— Aurora University will host three review sessions in May and June to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test.

Education and social work students who plan to work in public school systems are required to pass the five-hour Basic Skills test to be certified.

The public is invited to attend the series sponsored by AU's Center for Teaching and Learning.

The schedule is:

• May 17: A review from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. will cover math I and reading comprehension.

• May 22: A review from 6 to 8:30 p.m. will cover math II, including geometry, statistics, graphing, and combined skills.

• June 2: A review from 6 to 8:30 p.m. will cover language arts and writing. Advance registration is required. The cost is $25 for the public and free to AU students and alumni. Locations will be announced.

Eric Schwarze, director of AU's Center for Teaching and Learning, said instruction, practice problems, and handout materials are included.

The center also provides one-on-one tutoring for the state test to AU students at no charge.

Schwarze stressed that the sessions are for students taking the Basic Skills Test, not specific subject tests in elementary education, social work, history, and nursing.
