‘Aging and the Family’: Aurora University Workshop May 16 AURORA, Ill.— Aurora University will host “Aging and the Family: Multigenerational Challenges,” a workshop, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Friday, May 16. The program is in Crimi Auditorium at the Institute for Collaboration at 405 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. Sponsors are Provena Mercy Medical Center, AU’s School of Social Work, and AU’s Center for Adult and Graduate Studies. Nancy R. Hooyman, professor in gerontology and dean emeritus at the University of Washington School of Social Work in Seattle, will lead the workshop. In addition to aging and the family, other topics scheduled are Alzheimer’s disease, long-term care, mental-health settings and grandparents raising grandchildren. Hooyman is co-director of the University of Washington School of Social Work’s Multigenerational Institute. She received the school’s first endowed professorship in gerontology which is named in her honor. She is co-principal investigator of the Council on Social Work Education National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education. Hooyman has written 11 books and more than 120 peer-review articles and book chapters related to gerontology, care-giving and end-of-life care. She is a fellow and past chair of the Social Research Policy and Practice section of the Gerontological Society of America. Hooyman’s awards include the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work Education. The workshop has been approved for 5.5 contact hours by the AU School of Social Work and the CSWE. Registration is $90 per person. Lunch is included.
