Aurora University Promotes McKenzie To Dean

Fred McKenzie, Dean of CPSAURORA, Ill.— Fred R. McKenzie of St. Charles was recently promoted to dean of the College of Professional Studies at Aurora University.

In his new role, McKenzie supervises 35 faculty members in the college which includes the School of Social Work, School of Nursing and Dunham School of Business.

Prior to his promotion, McKenzie was director of AU’s School of Social Work.

After coming to AU in 1991 as a social work instructor, he was promoted to assistant professor, associate professor and interim director of the School of Social Work.

From 1988 to 1991, McKenzie was a part-time instructor in AU’s Master of Social Work degree program. Earlier he was a part-time instructor in the Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of Illinois-Chicago. In 2000 and 2006, he was a visiting professor in the doctoral program at Loyola University of Chicago.

McKenzie earned his doctorate degree in clinical social work from Loyola University in Chicago in 1995.  He has a master’s degree in social work and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from George Williams College, formerly in Downers Grove.

McKenzie’s professional memberships and associations include Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the State of Illinois, National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and Academy of Certified Social Workers. Additionally, he is listed in the National Association of Social Workers register, and holds the title of Diplomate in Clinical Social Work from NASW.

Andrew Manion, AU provost said, "Dr. McKenzie has been highly effective in his leadership of the School of Social Work. The faculty in the College of Professional Studies were very enthusiastic about his candidacy and I anticipate that he will do an excellent job leading the College. I very much look forward to working with him."

McKenzie said, “I am very honored and proud to have been chosen to serve as the new dean of the College of Professional Studies at Aurora University. I hope to be able to continue the further development of the College of Professional Studies as a truly interdisciplinary college at Aurora University, and an integral asset to the Aurora community," he said.
