Free Tax Help At Aurora University To End April 5;
Filing Required To Receive Tax Rebate Stimulus Payment

AURORA, Ill.-Aurora University's 2008 free tax-preparation program will end April 5.

The last of six tax-preparation dates is Saturday, April 5, from 8 to 11 a.m. in Dunham Hall lobby, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.

By the time the service closes, 35 accounting students supervised by two certified public accountants expect to prepare a record 500 federal and state returns for those earning up to $50,000.

Appointments are on a first come, first served basis. Bilingual preparers can help those who speak Spanish, Russian, Italian and Albanian.

Electronic filing is available for taxpayers who qualify. A photo ID, Social Security identification number and the taxpayer's 2006 tax return are required.

This is the sixth consecutive year that AU's Dunham School of Business has been approved to participate in the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Len Scholl, assistant professor of accounting and a certified public accountant, reminded taxpayers that filing a tax return is the only step Americans have to take to receive their tax rebates from the economic stimulus plan. Those who may not normally file tax returns should file to receive a rebate.

AU's tax-preparation program set a six-year, single-date record March 15 when 80 Chicago-area taxpayers brought their forms for help. Call (630) 844-6895 for information.
