Aurora University Slates Review Sessions for State Board of Education Test
AURORA, Ill.--Aurora University will host four review sessions starting Feb. 19 to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test.
The public is invited to the series sponsored by AU's Center for Teaching and Learning. Advance registration is required. The cost is $25 for the public and free to AU students and alumni. Locations will be announced.
The schedule is:
- Feb. 19: A review including a test overview and reading comprehension is from 6 to 8:15 p.m.
- Feb. 23: A review from 10 a.m. to noon will cover Math I, including algebra, pre-algebra skills, logic, proportions, and word problems.
- Feb. 27: A review from 6 to 8 p.m. will cover Math II, including geometry, statistics, graphing, and combined skills.
- March 5: A review from 6 to 8 p.m. will cover language arts and writing.
Education and social work majors who hope to work in public school systems are required to pass the five-hour Basic Skills test to be certified.
Eric Schwarze, center director, said instruction, practice problems, and handout materials are included.
The center also provides free one-on-one tutoring for the state test to AU students.
Schwarze stressed that the sessions are for students taking the Basic Skills Test, not specific subject tests in elementary education, social work, history, and nursing.
