Remembering Dec. 7, 1941:
Pearl Harbor Veterans To Reunite At Memorial Luncheon Monday, Dec. 3

AURORA, Ill.-- Aurora University will host the 38th annual Pearl Harbor Day memorial luncheon for Pearl Harbor and Asiatic fleet survivors of the Dec. 7, 1941 attack at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 in the University Banquet Hall in Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.

The public is invited. Admission is $20. The sponsor is the Aurora Navy League Council, a veterans group.

The keynote speaker is U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Jon W. Bayless, Jr., commander, Navy Region Midwest, Great Lakes Naval Station.

Ted Brattin Civic Youth awards, scholarships in memory of an Aurora Navy veteran, will be presented to 10 area high school students for their school and community achievements. Award co-sponsors are AU, Aurora Navy League Council, the Beacon News, and the Aurora-Naperville Rotary Club.

Joe Jackman, president of the Aurora Council, Navy League, will serve as master of ceremonies.

The program will open with posting of the colors by a color guard from East Aurora High School’s Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. The pledge of allegiance will be followed by group singing of the national anthem.

After lunch, the Brattin award winners will be announced, Rear Admiral Bayless will speak, and Pearl Harbor and Asiatic fleet survivors will be recognized. The memorial observance will close with a group singing of “God Bless America.”
