Aurora University To Screen Classic Silent Film Nov. 19

AURORA, Ill.-- "Pandora’s Box,” a 1929 classic silent film, will be shown at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, at Aurora University.

The screening and a following discussion is free to the public in Perry Theatre in the Aurora Foundation Center at 1305 Kenilworth Place in Aurora.

In German with English subtitles, the 110-minute, black-and-white film was directed by G.W. Pabst. A classic of the German cinema, the movie established Louise Brooks as a major screen presence.

Brooks plays Lulu, an entrancing and free-spirited girl who destroys everyone she meets.  Her unwitting power over men leads her in a downward spiral to prostitution and a fateful meeting with Jack the Ripper.

“The recent media attention paid to young women in trouble makes this a timely and important film,” said Gerald Butters, AU dean of general education and assistant dean, College of Arts and Sciences.

Butters and Joe Dunham, senior fellow in AU’s Wackerlin Center for Faith and Action, will lead a discussion following the film.
