Aurora University Announces November Events

AURORA, Ill, October 25, 2007A theater production, Native American Heritage Month celebration, and an art exhibit opening highlight November events at Aurora University.

Events are free to the public unless a fee is indicated.  Events scheduled are:
       
        Nov. 1: Museum Lecture—A Native American Heritage Month celebration opens with “The Native American Church: History and Traditions,” a lecture by Ben Bearskin, Ho Chunk tribe member from Milwaukee, at 1:15  and 6:30 p.m. at the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.         Nov. 1: Test Review—The Center for Teaching and Learning will hold a review of language arts and writing for the Illinois State Board of Higher Education Basic Skills test from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 102 of the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. Free for AU students and alumni, $25 for others. Information: 630-844-5520.
       
        Nov. 3: Open House—High school seniors and guests are invited to an information open house in Crimi Auditorium, Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave., Aurora, at 8:45 a.m.  Information: 630-844-5533, admission@aurora.edu.
       
        Nov. 5: Dance Performance—Native American Heritage Month: The Waswagoning Dance Theatre of Lac du Flambeau, Wis., will present “Spirit of the People” at 6:30 p.m. in Crimi Auditorium at the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S.        Nov. 7: Film Showing—Native American Heritage Month: “Totem: The Return of the G’psgolox Pole” will be shown at noon and 6:30 p.m. in the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.         Nov: 7: Information Session—Prospective graduate students are invited to attend an information reception at 6:30 p.m. in Crimi Auditorium at the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S.         Nov. 9, 10, 14-17: Theatre Production—“The Real Inspector Hound,” a murder mystery, opens at 7:30 p.m. in Perry Theatre at the Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment, 1305 Kenilworth Place in Aurora. A 7 p.m. pre-show discussion precedes the Nov. 14 performance. The program is part of the 2007-2008 Celebrating Arts and Ideas Series. Information: 630-844-4896.
       
       Nov. 10: Community Lecture—“Does Religion Spoil Everything?” will be explored by Martin Forward, executive director of the Wackerlin Center for Faith and Action, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in room 320 of Eckhart Hall at 347 S. Gladstone Ave. in Aurora. Information: 630-844-6535.

        Nov 13: Open House—The School of Nursing will host an open house for incoming freshmen at 6:30 p.m. in Perry Theatre at the Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment, 1305 Kenilworth Place, Aurora.  Information: 630-844-5533 or admission@aurora.edu.
       
        Nov. 14: Information Session— An information open house for transfer and adult students is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Dunham Hall atrium, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora. Information: 630-844-5533 or admission@aurora.edu.
       
        Nov. 14: Art Opening—Native American Heritage Month: “Field Sketches,” an art display through Jan. 4, showcases works by the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, Great Lakes Chapter. An opening reception is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora. Ecologist Pat Armstrong of Naperville will present a slide lecture, “Native American Uses of Plants.” The program is part of the 2007-2008 Celebrating Arts and Ideas Series.         Nov. 19: Film Showing—“Pandora’s Box,” a 1929 German film, will be shown at 7 p.m. in Perry Theatre at the Aurora Foundation Center, 1305 Kenilworth Place, Aurora.  A post-show discussion follows. Information: 630-844-5615.
      
        Nov. 20: Film Showing—Native American Heritage Month: “Teachings of the Tree People: The Work of Bruce Miller” will be shown at noon and 6:30 p.m. in the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures, Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.         Nov. 28: Human Resources Workshop—The AU Human Resources Institute will offer a free educational program from 8 to 9 a.m. in the University Banquet Hall in Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place, Aurora. Information: 630-844-4894.
