Job Interviewing 101: Area Employers Wanted For 8-Minute Speed Job Interviews Oct. 25
AURORA,
Ill, September 27,
2007—Chicago-area employers are invited to conduct mock job interviews with Aurora University students.
Modeled after speed-dating programs, the second-annual AU program will match junior and senior students with visiting interviewers for eight-minute interviewing sessions.
Sponsored by AU's Dunham School of Business, the session opens at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at the University Banquet Hall.
After questioning each student for six minutes, each interviewer will offer two minutes of feedback on physical presentation, resumes and answer style, as well as giving pointers on how to prepare for real-life interviews.
Mary Tarling, assistant professor of business, is the event's organizer for a second year.
In the inaugural session last October, 32 students donned business attire and presented resumes to 11 area employers.
"What students need is mass interviewing experience," said Tarling. "And it's a risk-free environment, so they have nothing to lose and everything to gain from the experience."
Tarling feels the experience will help her students master interviewing, which she calls an "art form," without the risks of missing out on a dream job.
"Lots of students chase a job they think will be really awesome, and they don't get it because they don't do as well as they would like in the interview," she said. "Hopefully, now they'll get that awesome job."
Employers interested in participating should call (630) 844-7802.
