Legal Update: Aurora University HR workshop June 27

AURORA, Ill, June 20, 2007 - “Legal Update” is the topic of Aurora University’s Human Resources Institute from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at the atrium lobby of Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Pl. in Aurora.  

The public is invited. Admission is free. Networking and refreshments are at 7:30 a.m.

Alan M. Kaplan, an attorney with Masuda, Funai, Eifert & Mitchell, Ltd. in Schaumberg, will discuss recent state HR-related legislation and significant decisions in federal and Illinois courts.

Kaplan represents management in employment, union avoidance and negotiations and  related litigation matters. He represents companies before federal, state and local agencies that regulate labor and employment laws, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety Health and Administration (OSHA) and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

Earlier he was an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel in Washington, D.C., and a trial attorney and hearing officer in the NLRB Chicago regional office.

Kaplan served as vice-chair of the Labor and Employment Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association for 2006-2007. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Subcommittee on Practice and Procedure before the National Labor Relations Board and a director of the Chicago Kent School of Law Public Sector Labor Relations Conference.

He is admitted to practice in Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and the Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals for the Seventh, Ninth and District of Columbia Circuits and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, the Easter District of Tennessee and the Easter District of Wisconsin. 

Kaplan received his J.D. from DePaul College of Law, where he was an editor for the DePaul Law Review. He received B.S.E. and M.A. degrees in educational administration from Northwestern University.
