Education Group Honors Aurora University, Staff Members

AURORA, Ill. May 30--Aurora University and two AU staff members were honored at an April meeting of the Phi Delta Kappa Northern Illinois University chapter at Tribella Restaurant in Batavia.

Recognized were Pamela Ferdinand of Maple Park and Judy Maxwell of Sugar Grove. Both are Future Education Association coordinators for AU's College of Education.

They accepted $1,500 in grants to AU for an annual summer training conference for FEA members from Fox Valley-area high schools. About 20 high school students and seven AU students are expected to attend the conference Aug. 4-8 at George Williams College of Aurora University in Williams Bay, Wis.

Also, PDK officials presented the Terwilliger-Dorland award to AU, PDK, and the Kane County Regional Office of Education.The award winners co-sponsored "How to Achieve Maximum Success in the Classroom," a half-day workshop May 11 for 500 area educators at AU's Crimi auditorium, by education expert Harry K. Wong, Ed.D.

Ferdinand and Maxwell also each received the Service Key award for service to the PDK-NIU chapter. Service projects included a benefit PDK Walk for Education and the Wong workshop.

AU's College of Education supports FEA chapter development and activities at 15 Aurora-area high schools. In addition to the summer conference, activities during the school year include AU campus visits, attending an FEA national convention, and shadowing teachers in area schools.
