Aurora University To Offer Preparation For State Test

AURORA, Ill. May 23, 2007 - Aurora University will host three review sessions in June to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test.

The public is invited to the series in room 119 of Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora. The series is free to AU students, alumni, and students applying for admission and $25 for others. The series is sponsored by AU's Learning Center. Advance registration is required. The schedule is:

  • June 5: Test overview, test-taking strategy, reading comprehension, and Math I are from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
  • June 13: Math II is from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
  • June 20: Language arts and writing is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Eric Schwarze, Learning Center director, said instruction, practice problems, and handout materials are included.

Education and social work majors who hope to work in public school systems are required to pass the five-hour Basic Skills test to be certified.

Students may take the seminars to prepare for the next state test date on June 23 or for future test dates, Schwarze said. The Learning Center also provides one-on-one free tutoring for the state test to AU students. The sessions are for students taking the Basic Skills Test, not specific subject tests in elementary education, social work, history, and nursing.
