Aurora University Museum Awarded $2,000 Donation

AURORA, Ill.—Aurora University’s Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures has received a $2,000 donation from the Illinois Society Children of the American Revolution (ISCAR).

Meg Bero, center executive director, received a check from ISCAR State President Kathleen Zeles at the group’s 69th annual state conference at Bradley, Ill. on March 3.

Bero was the conference keynote speaker. She discussed the Schingoethe Center’s history, mission and programs.

According to Bero, the ISCAR grant will enable the AU center to acquire artworks by Chicago-area Native American artists.

Opened in 1990 at Dunham Hall, the center houses more than 6,000 Native American artifacts and related materials.

Bero said, “The Schingoethe Center serves both as the university’s museum of Native American culture and as a setting for research and teaching relating to the study of cultural artifacts and related texts.

“With a primary goal to enrich the teaching and learning experience of Aurora University students and faculty, the center also serves as an important resource for area schools and colleges, researchers, Native American groups, and the general public.”
