Local Educator Discusses Success Strategies For Minority Professors

AURORA, Ill. November 18, 2006 - Andrew Manion, provost at Aurora University, spoke at the 10th annual Joint Fellows Conference in Lisle Nov. 2-5.

The Sugar Grove resident was among panelists who discussed strategies for success for minority faculty members in higher education.

In addition to Manion, other panelists were Brent Knight, president, Morton College; Andrew Duren, vice president, Moraine Valley Community College; Joseph Rallo, provost and academic vice president, Western Illinois University; Oliver Wilson, dean, Grand Valley State University; and Gail Scukanec, interim dean, Central Michigan University.

“Developing a Community of Scholars” was the conference theme. Co-hosts were Northwestern University and University of Illinois at Chicago.

Manion joined AU in 1998 as dean of arts and sciences and became chief academic officer in 2000. He earned his Ph.D. from Adelphi University and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from St. Norbert College.
