University Musicians To Perform 'Wonder of Christmas' Dec. 3

AURORA, Ill. November 16, 2006 - Classical and popular holiday musical selections will be performed in “The Wonder of Christmas” by The Aurora University Chorale and The Music by the Lake Singers and Festival Orchestra at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Crimi Auditorium in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.

The program is free to the public. The concert is part of AU’s 2006-07 Celebrating Arts and Ideas series.

Christine Flasch, University Chorale director and executive director of Music by the Lake, will direct. Popular favorites include “Sleigh Ride,” “Let It Snow/Winter Wonderland,” and the “Christmas Song.” Selections from the Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah,” spirituals and ethnic selections are also scheduled.

With 32 voices, the University Chorale debuted this fall to perform at university functions and concerts each semester. Scholarships are available to students who qualify.

The 16-member Music by the Lake Singers and 35-member orchestra are from the George Williams College of Aurora University in Williams Bay, Wis. Music by the Lake is an annual summer music concert series held at the GWC campus.

The Music by the Lake Singers includes young artists from Illinois and Wisconsin. Many of the talented singers have appeared in operas and operettas presented on the GWC campus.

Before joining Aurora University, Flasch spent 12 years singing leading soprano roles with opera companies nationwide, culminating in eight seasons with the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
