Aurora University Debuts Bachelor's Degree For Public Safety WorkersAURORA, Ill. November 1, 2006 - Aurora University has announced that the university has introduced a bachelor's degree completion program for law-enforcement workers. Both sworn and civilian public safety personnel can earn a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice by taking classes in the evening and on Saturday. Most courses meet in eight-week sessions. The program includes eight required courses and four elective classes which stress effective communication and creative problem solving skills. The curriculum provides a broad academic background in criminal justice for flexibility in career options. Additionally, the program prepares both sworn and civilian students for middle- and senior-management positions. Applications are being accepted for spring-semester entry into the program. Prospective students must be at least 23 years old with relevant work experience. Prior college coursework may be submitted for transfer credit. Financial aid is available for students who qualify. Ken Jones, an instructor and a former Cook County Sheriff's Police commander said,"This is an opportunity for students to complete their undergraduate degree in an accelerated curriculum, in an adult setting that can benefit them now."
