Aurora University Debuts Celebrating Arts
and Ideas Series
AURORA, Ill. September 27,
2006 - Aurora University, 347 S. Gladstone Ave., Aurora, has announced
its premiere Celebrating Arts and Ideas series.
The public is invited. Programs are free unless noted otherwise.
THROUGH OCT. 27
“First Light II: New Artists, New Work,” an annual exhibit
showcasing the work of artists embarking in new directions, is at the Downstairs
Dunham Gallery, Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora. Hours are
8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and
1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7
7:30 p.m. A recital for cello and piano features pianist Soyoung Kee
and cellist Ed Moore performing music of Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninoff
at Perry Theatre in The Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment,
1307 Kenilworth Place, Aurora.
NOVEMBER 10, 11, 15-18
7:30 p.m. “Season for Giving,” a world premiere adaptation
of Charles Dickens’ story “The Seven Poor Travelers” by
Denise Blank, assistant professor of theatre, is performed by AU theatre
students at Perry Theatre in The Aurora Foundation Center for Community
Enrichment, 1307 Kenilworth Place, Aurora. A pre-show insight program
is at 7 p.m. Nov. 15. The play traces the struggles of a young man’s
journey through grief and redemption, a story with messages of humanity
and social justice.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3
4 p.m. “The Wonder of Christmas,” a concert of classical
and popular holiday selections, is offered by The Aurora University Chorale
and The Music by the Lake Singers and Festival Orchestra, all under the
direction of Christine Flasch, at Crimi Auditorium, Institute for Collaboration,
407 S. Calumet Ave., Aurora.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 21, 2007
3 p.m. A recital for voice and piano, featuring sacred and secular music,
is performed by baritone Brad Jungwirth and pianist Dana Brown at Perry
Theatre in the Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment, 1307
Kenilworth Place, Aurora.
FEBRUARY 15-MARCH 15, 2007
Aurora University’s annual high school art show opens Feb. 15 with
an awards ceremony and reception for the artists from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
at the Downstairs Dunham Gallery in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place,
Aurora. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays,
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
FEBRUARY 16, 17, 21-24, 2007
7:30 p.m. “Thieves’ Carnival,” a play written by Jean
Anouilh and translated by Lucienne Hill, is performed by AU theatre students
at Perry Theatre in The Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment,
1307 Kenilworth Place, Aurora. A pre-show insight program is at 7 p.m.
Feb. 21. The play tells the story of a band of con-artists who employ
disguises, flattery and “respectable” feminism to melt away
Lady Hurf’s boredom with life.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 2007
7:30 p.m. A recital for piano, violin and trumpet by pianist Rose Marie
Wood, violinist Thomas Wood, and trumpeter Peter Wood is at Perry Theatre
in The Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment, 1307 Kenilworth
Place in Aurora. Classical music for one, two and all three of the
instruments will be performed.
MARCH 22-SEPTEMBER 14
4-7 p.m. Seventh Annual Aurora University Student Art Show is at Downstairs
Dunham Gallery in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora. An
opening reception is Mar. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m.
FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2007
7:30 p.m. “An American Sampler,” great American choral music
from the Civil War to the present, is performed by The Aurora University
Chorale under the direction of Christine Flasch at Crimi Auditorium in
the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave., Aurora.
