Aurora University sets October events lineup

AURORA, Ill. September 21, 2006 - Homecoming activities, an human resources workshop and presentations by Native Americans highlight October events at Aurora University. Events are free to the public unless a fee is indicated. The lineup is:

  • Oct. 5: Literature Readings. Ralph Salisbury, Native American author, and poetess Ingrid Wendt Salisbury, will read and discuss their writings at 7 p.m. at the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures, Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.   • Oct. 6: Homecoming Banquet. A golden reunion will feature alumni and athletic hall of fame awards at 6:30 p.m. at the Aurora Country Club, 1600 Prairie St., Aurora. Cost: $40 per person. Information: 630-844-5486, www.aurora.edu/alumni/homecoming/index.htm.
  • Oct. 7: Homecoming Football. AU’s Spartans take on Concordia University-Wisconsin at 1 p.m. on the Spartan field. Cost: $4 for adults, $2 for students, under age 12 free. Information: 630-844-5486, www.aurora.edu/alumni/homecoming/index.htm.

  • Oct. 8-Nov. 12: Young Scholars. Pre-Kindergarten through eighth-grade gifted students are invited to the Young Scholars program, educational courses that meet on campus at various times. Fee based on class. Information: 630-844-3833, abutcher@aurora.edu.
  • Oct. 9: Visit Day. Collegebound freshmen are invited to learn about AU programs from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Crimi Auditorium at the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave., Aurora. Information: 630-844-5533, auadmission@aurora.edu.
  • Oct. 10: Flu Vaccinations. Flu, meningitis, and tetanus-diphtheria vaccinations will be given from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dunham Hall lobby, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora. Information: 630-844-5434, cblock@aurora.edu.

  • Oct. 20: Violence Monologues. AU theatre students and faculty will read letters by violence victims and other readings at 7 p.m. in Perry Theatre, Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment, 1307 Kenilworth Place, Aurora, as part of the Aurora YWCA’s Week without Violence observance.
