Classical Music Recital At Aurora University Oct. 7AURORA, Ill. September 19, 2006 - Aurora University will host cellist Edward Moore and pianist Soyoung Kee in a classical recital at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Perry Theatre in the Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment at 1305 Kenilworth Place in Aurora. The recital is free and open to the public. The recital program includes Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 5, No. 2; Chopin’s Sonata Op. 65, and Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise,” Op. 34, No. 14. Moore, a Chicago resident, performs with a number of Chicago-area orchestras, including the Chicago Sinfonietta, the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra and Ravinia Festival Orchestra, and is principal cellist of the New Black Music Repertory Ensemble. He has also performed with the Grant Park Symphony and the Fulcrum Point New Music Project. Moore has competed in several music competitions, including a second place finish in the Manogue International String Competition. Since 1997, Moore has been a member of the faculty at Elmhurst College. In addition to his musical career, he is an award-winning author whose literary work has been broadcast on Chicago Public Radio. Moore received a Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University and a Master of Music degree from the State University of New York. His teachers included renowned cellists Janos Starker and Bernard Greenhouse. Kee, an Elk Grove Village resident, at age 12 played the Beethoven Concerto No. 4 with the West Suburban Symphony. Since then, she has performed with the Indiana Philharmonic, Northwestern Symphony Orchestra, Kankakee Symphony, Hyde Park Chamber Orchestra, the DuPage Symphony, and the Elmhurst Symphony. Recently, she was invited to compete in international competitions including the William Kapell International Piano competition, and the Naumburg International Competition. Kee has received awards from the World Piano Competition, Horowitz International Competition, the Society of Musicians Young Artist Competition, Kankakee Symphony Young Artists Competition, Cliff Dwellers Young Artist Competition, Farwell Musicians Club of Women Awards, Union League Scholarship Competition, the Performers of Connecticut Young Artist Competition, Clara Wells Scholarship Competition, Lima Symphony Young Artist Competition, Northwestern University Concerto Competition and the Indiana University Concerto Competition. Kee is on the faculty at Elmhurst College and at Aurora University. She graduated from the Eastman School of Music with high distinction in piano performance, earned a Master’s of Music, a two-year Artist Diploma at Indiana University, and a doctorate at Northwestern University. Her studies have taken her to the Gnessin Conservatory in Moscow. Her teachers include Emilio del Rosario, Nelita True, Lev Vlassenko, and Panayis Lyras.
