Aurora University to open art show at Dunham Gallery 9/14

AURORA, Ill. September 1, 2006 - Aurora University’s Downstairs Dunham Gallery will present First Light II: New Artists, New Works, from Sept. 14 through Oct. 27 at Downstairs Dunham Gallery at Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.

The second annual exhibit contains about 40 works by six area artists.

They are:

  • Aurora: Deann Alleman, oil pastels and landscapes; Gerardo Rios, oil portraits, self-portraits, genre studies; and Juan Sepulveda II, oil genre studies, portraits.
  • Geneva: R Hope LeVan, oil pastels, landscapes.
  • Downers Grove: Jon Stanicek, acrylics from his “Portraits” series.
  • Naperville: Maureen McKee, oil pastels, still-lifes, landscapes.

The public is invited to meet the artists at an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Gallery. Refreshments will be served.

Gallery admission is free. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Most works on display are for sale. In addition to original pieces, giclee prints, high-quality, limited-edition reproduction prints, are offered.

Gallery Director Michael Sawdey said, “In this second annual show, we present the work of six artists who are beginning their artistic careers. In each case, we present a group of works by each artist that conveys the artist’s vision, direction, and promise.”
