Immigration, Compensation, Affirmative Action To Be Topics At Aurora University June 28

AURORA, Ill. June 7, 2006 - “Human Resources Legal Update” will be presented at Aurora University’s Human Resources Institute at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28.

The program is free to the public at the Dunham Hall lobby, 1400 Marseillaise Pl., Aurora. Networking and refreshments are from 7:30 to 8 a.m.; the presentation is at 8 a.m.

Penelope M. Lechtenberg, partner with Chicago-based Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP’s Rockford office, will discuss affirmative action laws, immigration regulations, wage and hour issues, and labor union campaigns.

Lechtenberg represents management in labor and employment law matters before federal and state courts and administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, OSHA, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Illinois Department of Human Rights, Illinois Department of Labor, Illinois Human Rights Commission and Illinois Department of Employment Security.

She provides employers with practical advice on all day-to-day employment-related issues including implementation of ADA and FMLA requirements, employee benefits programs, unemployment compensation procedures and hearings, and questions arising under the federal and state wage and hour laws. She regularly prepares employment agreements, separation agreements and other forms of business contracts.

Lechtenberg also maintains a substantial business and personal immigration practice. She advises corporate and individual clients in immigration matters involving U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services, Department of Labor and Department of State, from immigration petitions to audits and workplace investigations.

In addition to her employment law work, Lechtenberg is also experienced in proceedings involving the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Copyright Office. She processes and prosecutes trademark, service mark and copyright applications, and works to protect and defend owners’ intellectual property rights.

Lechtenberg serves as an arbitrator for the Circuit Court of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit, Winnebago County, Ill. She is a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the National Diocesan Attorneys Association.
