GWC Announces Auditions for Music by the Lake Production of "La Traviata"

WILLIAMS BAY, Wis. — George Williams College of Aurora University in Williams Bay, Wis., announces auditions for "La Traviata," a Music by the Lake production with full orchestra to be performed in Italian on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24, during the festival's 10th anniversary season. Performances will take place in The Ferro Pavilion at 350 Constance Blvd. on the campus. All roles are currently open with paid choral positions also available.

Auditions will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, and Sunday, Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, 430 S. Michigan Ave., room 730, seventh floor in Chicago. Candidates should use the Wabash Avenue entrance. Additional auditions will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 1511 Church St. in Wauwatosa, Wis. (Milwaukee).

Christine Flasch, executive director of Music by the Lake, will conduct the auditions. Participants are asked to bring a current resumé and headshot and be prepared to sing one aria in Italian.

An accompanist will be provided and a second aria of the participant's choosing may be requested. All those auditioning should be prepared to sing 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment.

Music by the Lake is a concert series that was originally presented in the 1950s and 1960s, and featured top performing artists such as Isaac Stern, Robert Merrill and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Aurora University revived Music by the Lake in July 2001 with the vision of providing area residents, tourists, and arts lovers with a premier musical experience in an intimate lakeside setting on the shores of Geneva Lake at George Williams College.

The 2009 season featured the Ramsey Lewis Trio; a production of "Madama Butterfly;" Michael Bolton; "Sweet Baby James," a James Taylor tribute; Thomas Hampson and Johann Stengård. For more information about Music by the Lake, visit www.musicbythelake.com.
