AURORA, Ill. — Aurora University will host "How To Leverage Your Employee Assistance Program during an Economic Downturn," a free workshop, at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the University Banquet Hall in Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.

The guest speaker is Brian Malinowski, director of business development for Chicago-based Employee Resource Systems Inc. (ERS).

The program is open to the public. Registration, networking and refreshments are from  7:30 to 8 a.m.

The presentation will cover seven ways to leverage an EAP, including tips on the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008.

Malinowski said, "It's difficult to financially justify a new benefit during uncertain economic times. But most companies already have EAPs that they have utilized more for the overall benefit of their bottom line."

A company's EAP was there during boom times, Malinowski said, and is now posed to have a greater impact on a firm's bottom line. An EAP can help improve employee productivity, help manage difficult employees, and deal with the emotions for employees who have lost bonuses, perks and overtime pay, he said.

Malinowski is in charge of marketing and account management and development for ERS. Previously, he maintained a private clinical practice in marriage relationship and counseling and was a case manager for an onsite EAP provider.

He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Illinois and a master's in marriage and family therapy from the Family Institute at Northwestern University. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional.

Reservations are required. Call 630-844-4917 or 630-844-4894.
