Aurora University to Host Reviews for Basic Skills Test

AURORA, Ill. — Aurora University will host four review sessions to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test to be held Nov. 14.
The public is invited to the series sponsored by AU's College of Education. Admission is free to AU students and alumni and $25 for others.
Upcoming reviews are:
- Tuesday, Oct. 13: A general overview, including test-taking strategy, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 102 in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.
- Saturday, Oct. 17: Math I — word problems, proportions, pre-algebra, algebra, logic — will be reviewed from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 314 in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.
- Saturday, Oct. 24: Language arts and writing will be reviewed from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 124 in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.
- Saturday, Oct. 31: Math II — geometry, statistics, graphing, combined skills — will be reviewed from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 124 in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.
Education and social work majors who plan to work in public school systems are required to pass the five-hour Basic Skills Test to be certified.
Reviews include instruction, practice problems and handout materials.
The goal of the sessions is to build confidence and reduce anxiety by helping students focus on their skills needing review.
Workshop attendees are requested to bring to review sessions the online Basic Skills Test study guide on the Illinois Certification Testing System Web site at www.icts.nesinc.com.
Also available on the ICTS Web site are study guides for other tests administered through ICTS and a practice test to prepare for the Basic Skills test.
