The Dunham Scholars program was created in 1996 with the philanthropic support of the late John Dunham and his estate.
John Dunham retired as chairman of Dallas-based Equipto Co. His father, Thomas, founded the industrial-storage equipment firm in 1904 in Aurora , Ill.
AU awarded Dunham an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in 1995. John was named Executive in Residence in 1996.
Since the program’s inception, 67 Dunham Scholars have earned AU degrees.
Shawn Green, director of AU’s Dunham School of Business, and Ileana Brooks, associate professor of business, jointly administer the Dunham Scholars program.
Green said, “The objective of this most generous program was made clear at the program’s outset by John Dunham. “
He wanted to assist accomplished, well-rounded students who have a sense of what it means to give back to society, and who will develop an ethical framework along with the skills to be successful in our free enterprise system,” Green said.
