Learn About Caterpillar Inc. Leadership Programs At Aurora University Oct. 29

AURORA, Ill.—A Caterpillar Inc. human resources vice president will discuss company training and development programs at Aurora University from 8 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Sid Banwart, Caterpillar vice president for human services, will explore “ World-Class Leadership Programs at Caterpillar" at the AU Human Resources Institute in Perry Theatre in the Aurora Foundation Center for Community Enrichment at 1305 Kenilworth Place in Aurora.
The program is free to the public. Networking and refreshments are at 7:30 a.m.
Banwart is corporate vice president with responsibility for the Human Services Division at Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria . He has responsibility for Caterpillar University; compensation and benefits; corporate medical; corporate public affairs; global diversity; global HR shared services; corporate human resources; corporate security; environmental health and safety; sustainable development; corporate real estate; corporate succession management; and the Caterpillar Foundation.
Banwart joined Caterpillar in 1968 as a development engineer. He held a variety of engineering and management positions until 1986 when he became the manager of quality control and engineering for the Caterpillar subsidiary in Mexico , where he also served as the manager of technical services.
He later became the quality control manager at the Aurora facility and took assignments in Decatur as technical services manager and motor grader product manager. Banwart became general manager of the Large Engine Center in Lafayette , IN in 1995. He was elected a vice president in October 1997 and led the company’s Technical Services Division. He assumed responsibility for the Component Products Division in 1998 and was named as Caterpillar’s first Chief Information Officer and head of the new Systems & Processes Division in 2000. He was named to his current position in April 2004.
Banwart holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University and an executive MBA from the University of Illinois . He graduated from Duke University 's Advanced Management Program, the Business & Public Policy Program at Brookings Institute and the Aspen Institute.
He serves as a member of the Personnel Round Table and as a member of the Board of Directors for the H.R. Policy Association. He is on the Board of Directors of The Weitz Company of Des Moines , IA and Caterpillar dealer Carter Machinery, Salem , VA. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Knox College in Galesburg , IL . In the Peoria , IL area, he serves on the boards of the Fayette Companies, the Heartland Partnership Council, and the Peoria Symphony Foundation.
