Aurora University to host reviews for state test

AURORA, Ill.—Aurora University will host four review sessions to prepare students for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test.
The public is invited to the series sponsored by AU's Center for Teaching and Learning.
Advance registration is required. The cost for four sessions is $25 for the public and free to AU students, alumni and current applicants. Locations will be announced.
The schedule is:
- Wednesday, Aug. 27: A review including a test overview, test-taking strategy, and reading comprehension is from 6 to 8 p.m.
- Saturday, Aug. 30: A review from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. will cover math word problems, proportions, pre-algebra and algebra skills.
- Saturday, Aug. 30: Language arts and writing will be reviewed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 3: Math skills including geometry, statistics, graphing and combine skills will be reviewed from 6 to 8 p.m.
Education and social work majors who hope to work in public school systems are required to pass the five-hour Basic Skills test to be certified.
Eric Schwarze, center director, said instruction, practice problems, and handout materials are included.
He said the center also provides one-on-one tutoring for the state test to AU students at no charge.
Review sessions are for students taking the Basic Skills Test, not specific subject tests in elementary education, social work, history, and nursing. The next test date is Sept. 6.
