Educational and Classroom
Resources Catalog
Education is the primary goal of the Schingoethe Center. Several forms
of educational resources help us share knowledge of Native American
Culture with the public.
- Discovery Boxes:
These are portable containers that include educational artifacts,
background material, and suggested activities on topics
of Native American culture. Schools and other educational
organizations may check out Discovery Boxes for a two-week
period for a fee of $20.00 per box. Because of the popularity
of Discovery boxes, schools may check out a maximum of five
boxes at a time. To schedule a Discovery Box, call 630-844-7843,
or click here to go to the Online Order
Form.
- Educational Videos and Audio-Visual Materials:
The Center maintains an extensive school film lending
library. Because most videos are single copies we restrict
borrowing to school groups and other educational organizations.
There is a $3.00 handling charge per video. They may be borrowed
for two weeks.
- Traveling Exhibits:
Four different traveling exhibits are available for use in
schools and other educational venues. They are framed and
ready to hang, fitted with Plexiglas for safety. The borrowing
fee is $25.00 per month, except for the large "Native
Peoples of Illinois" exhibit, which is $100 per month.

Resource Webpages on this Site
For several of our exhibits and programs we have developed pages on
this site that provide further information or links to sources of information:
- The World of the Kachina: Additional
material and links related to the display "The World of the Kachina,"
in the Nizhoni Gallery of the Musuem.
- Another approach to Columbus Day: What
was the early contact between Europeans and Native Americans really
like? This page provides some background information, and links to
many sources related to early contact.
