Michael J. Birck, chairman and CEO of Tellabs, Inc.; James
W. Owens, chairman and CEO Caterpillar Inc.; Ross J. Pillari,
president of BP America Inc.; and moderator John Callaway,
known for his work with WTTW's Chicago Tonight, discussed
corporate leadership challenges at the AU CEO Forum.
|
Nearly 350 business and community leaders joined the university and
the Dunham School of Business for an inspiring and insightful CEO
Forum on Leadership on Feb. 18.
Key corporate executives part of the panel were Michael J. Birck,
chairman and CEO of Tellabs, Inc.; James W. Owens, chairman and CEO
Caterpillar Inc.; and Ross J. Pillari, president of BP America Inc.
John Callaway, known for his work with WTTW's Chicago Tonight
news interview and analysis program, moderated the panel. Opening
remarks were presented by President Rebecca L. Sherrick and Mick Carroll,
director of the Dunham School of Business.
From discussion about social corporate responsibility to questions
about international outsourcing, the CEO Forum covered a variety of
contemporary issues facing businesses and the community. This series
is just one example of the university's commitment to deliver timely,
relevant information to the community.
Shaye Mandel, strategic business manager for Science Applications
International Corporation, attended the event and shared his thoughts
about the event in an email message to Mick Carroll.
"I think a lot of people are taking a fresh look at Aurora University
and, specifically, the Dunham School of Business.. While those of
us on the advisory board may have been helpful in putting together
the program, the execution was flawless," he said. "The gym looked
great, the comments by the President were excellent and each of the
panelists was on their game. I think this was the direct result of
them walking into an environment that was top notch and filled to
the brim with interested attendees."
With innovative educational programs and a distinctive series of
seminars and events, Aurora University is committed to the transformative
power of learning.

Guide to Public Relations Services
by Kevin
Apgar
Should the word "campus" be capitalized in "Lake Geneva campus"?
Should the number 10 be spelled out?
If you've ever asked these questions when preparing written material
for either a departmental website or a print piece, your answers are a
mere mouse click away.
The Guide to Public Relations Services is available on the AU
Intranet. This guide was developed last year to not only provide answers
to these and other common grammar questions, but also to detail what services
the PR department provides to the campus, including writing, proofreading,
advertising, graphic design and layout, and web design.
The guide also details the steps involved in requesting project assistance
from the PR department such as how much time to allow for a project to
be prepared and how you will assist in the process. It is available online
in Adobe Acrobat Reader .pdf format that can be easily downloaded, saved,
and printed from your computer.
One way in which the website transcends the actual printed guide, though,
is that it also serves as a download site where you can obtain hi-resolution
copies of commonly used AU logos including the official AU arch logo,
the AU seal, and the "Sammy Spartan" athletics logo. These images can
be placed in simple print and electronic documents that you design without
the assistance of the PR department such as a class syllabus, a departmental
memo, or an e-mail message.
To view The Guide to Public Relations Services website, click
here. This website may also be accessed by clicking on Intranet from
the AU homepage. To obtain a print copy, please contact Stevie Beatty
at x5481.
