STAR ProgramThe STAR program (Strategies Targeted for Academic Rewards) is an intense five-day summer orientation program which prepares students for the rigors of college life. Students move on campus a week before classes begin and get the low-down on what college life is all about. STAR students spend time both in the classroom and around the campus learning the ins and outs of college life. Below are just a few of the questions that the STAR summer program addresses:
Once the semester begins, the Center for Teaching & Learning offers a variety of academic assistance to STAR students: professional tutoring, peer tutoring, study groups, study contracts, and informal advising. The Center for Teaching & Learning tracks the academic progress of all STAR students during their freshman year by way of midterm progress reports, e-mails, and phone calls to faculty and advisors.
