The initiatives of the Institute for Collaboration at Aurora University provide unique opportunities for students to be involved in community-building programs that sharpen their leadership skills. They can respond to the challenge and excitement of working with young people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Students majoring in education have meaningful learning experiences in a variety of school settings, while fostering the academic achievement of the community’s children. Students majoring in social work, nursing, and other professional studies have the opportunity to practice their future professions as undergraduates, giving them first hand knowledge of their career choices. The programs also provide valuable opportunities for participating in educational research. Parents will appreciate the fact that their students will be compensated for meaningful work while attending the university. The Institute for Collaboration has been instrumental in introducing legislation at the state level to allow these students to receive academic credit as well as financial compensation for their work in Institute programs. |
