POLICY
Aurora University seeks to avoid potential charges of favoritism and conflict of interest in the employment of family members. This policy applies to all regular employees.
An immediate family member may not be hired if such employment would create:
- A direct supervisor/subordinate relationship with a family member; or
- An actual conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest; or
- Cause family members to work closely in the same department and/or office.
Additionally, an immediate family member who is receiving Tuition Assistance under HR-351 "Tuition Assistance - Family" will not be considered for Student Work Corps (on campus employment) until after all non-tuition assistance students have been employed.
This policy also applies when assigning, transferring, or promoting regular employees.
The university requires full disclosure of any relationship as defined below to Human Resources at the time of employment or at any time that it occurs in the course of employment.
For purposes of this policy, immediate family members include: spouse, domestic partner, brother, sister, parents, children, step-children, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and any other member of the employee's household.
Questions regarding this policy should be directed to Human Resources.
