POSITION PURPOSE: The Network and Applications Analyst position supports learning for the university students, faculty and staff by providing a stable network and applications analytic support for each of the university campus locations. Tasks include network, server and end-user support, application support and modification, account creation, backup system maintenance, system/user security, and faculty training of learning management system.Core Competencies:

- Supports learning through performance of essential job functions and performing other duties and functions as necessary or as assigned.
- Residence halls network repairs.
- Network infrastructure backup support.
- Network printer configuration and support.
- Network and system documentation.
- Construction projects and small cabling projects.
- Novell network backup support including user account maintenance, file space all allocation, user rights.
- Windows server maintenance and support.
- Interact and work with faculty to provide support with LMS interface with classes.
- Collaborates with Senior System Administrators to plan, implement and troubleshoot system design changes and updates for the university learning management system.
- Provide system backup and recovery administration.
- Provide LMS training and training documentation.
- Maintain document information and processes.
- Performs daily administration, monitoring, trouble-shooting, maintenance, and backup of the university's Active Directory servers.
- Supports server applications for learning management system.
- Provide timely feedback regarding installation and repair requests to appropriate parties.
- Ability for occasional travel to alternate campuses located in Woodstock, IL and Williams Bay, WI.
- Ability to work off business hours as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent.
- Certifications - CompTIAA Network+, CCNA preferred.
Experience:
- Working in higher education in a self-directed work environment preferred.
- Minimum four years working in a network environment.
- Experience in providing technical support and training for hardware and software applications.
- Medium size network environment
- Run low voltage cabling, with CAT 5E, CAT3, fiber, coaxial terminations
- General network, cable TV
- Network switches, routers, firewall
- TCP/IP working experience
- Working knowledge of server hardware and operating systems: Novell and Windows environments.
- Administering open source applications and operating systems.
- Experience in providing technical support and training for hardware and software applications.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot network and application problems to develop plausible solutions(s).
- Ability to troubleshoot when standard procedures are not possible, linking the problem with possible solutions.
Skills:
- Ability to determine cause of network problem and develop appropriate plan of action.
- Excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work with support vendors.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to life 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to move about campus, walk hilly terrain with ease.
- Ability to work in awkward positions (bending/stooping/under desks).
