Our two campuses are located in Aurora, Illinois, 40 miles west of Chicago, and on the shores of Geneva Lake in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. We are looking for talented assistant professors to join us in Fall of 2010. Experienced faculty applying at the associate rank may be considered.

UNDERGRADUATE FACULTY: As a private institution, Aurora University expects faculty to be involved in the lives of students through mentoring, student support, enrollment initiatives, and other activities relating to the college experience. Ph.D. and evidence of successful teaching or a strong potential for successful teaching are required unless otherwise specified. Undergraduate faculty are generally expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary general education program, and, when appropriate, the university honors program.

GRADUATE FACULTY: Graduate programs at Aurora University emphasize professional preparation. As such, preference will be given to candidates with professional experience in their field along with teaching expertise. An appropriate level of scholarly productivity and advising of graduate students also are expected. Ph.D. and evidence of successful teaching or a strong potential for successful teaching are required unless otherwise specified.

College of Education

ASSISTANT DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION: The College of Education of Aurora University seeks an experienced professional to assist the Dean of the College in administrative oversight of the College. Accredited by NCATE and offering bachelors and masters degrees and the doctorate in education, the College of Education enjoys a strong and long-standing collaborative relationship with local school districts.  The Assistant Dean is responsible for oversight of the Initial Certification programs and compliance with State of Illinois regulations and NCATE standards; assists the dean in the recruiting, hiring, and evaluating of faculty; and works with the University Office of Enrollment Management to identify and recruit students. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in education or a related field, familiarity with NCATE, and a combination of full-time faculty membership and higher education administrative experience that totals at least six years.

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIPTenure Track Assistant Professor.  Teach and advise graduate students who are preparing for careers in teaching and leadership.  The preferred candidate will have experience in curriculum, assessment, and instructional leadership.

INITIAL TEACHING Certification: Tenure Track Assistant Professor.  Teach and advise graduate students who are obtaining their initial teaching certification.  A successful teaching history is necessary.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:  Tenure Track Assistant Professor.  K-12 Pedagogy - Teach professional preparation courses, assist with coordination of field experiences and NCATE/NASPE accreditation process.  Doctorate degree in physical education or education by starting date required.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:  Clinical Track Assistant Professor - Coordinate and continue development of a new major, Coaching and Youth Sport Development.  Direct curricular development, coordinate student field experiences and establish collaborative partnerships with community youth agencies.  Teach undergraduate courses in physical education. Experience in college teaching preferred; usual expectations for scholarly activity and service for both position.

READING INSTRUCTION: Tenure Track Assistant Professor.  Teach courses in reading instruction, assessment, diagnosis and leadership.  In addition, the candidate will also advise students who will seek reading specialist certification and/or endorsement.  This is primarily a graduate level position, but undergraduate instruction is possible, depending on interest and expertise.

SPECIAL EDUCATION: Tenure Track Assistant Professor.  The successful candidate will have a strong special education foundation in both theory/research and practice, and an interest in growing with a developing program.  Graduate and undergraduate opportunities will be available.
